Payback: Part II

The Phillies offense showed up for the second straight game in today's 9-2 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Pat Burrell had a big day at the plate driving in 5 runs. He hit a 3 run homerun in the first inning off Dodgers' starter Clayton Kershaw. It got things started for the Phillies.

Russell Martin's 2 run homerun in the third was the only offense the Dodgers put up against Cole Hamels and the Phillies bullpen.

The big blow for the Phillies came in the 5th inning. Pat Burrell hit a fly ball to center field. Center fielder Matt Kemp misjudged the ball and lost it in the sun. Burrell ended up with a double and 2 runs scored.

Ryan Howard and Shane Victorino each drove in 2 runs to give the Phillies a 9-2 lead.

Hamels pitched 7 innings, allowed just 2 earned runs on 5 hits. He struck out 5 and did not allow a walk.

Hamels usually doesn't get much run support, but today he got it. Two offensive explosions in a row for the Phillies. If this is a sign the offense is heating up, its heating up at the right time.
