Thursday Trades

Everyday during the offseason inches a few steps closer to the regular season. Each day is unpredictable as trades, unexpected or not, are made. Free agents will be signed.

Today, a few trades were made.

The New York Yankees acquired Nick Swisher from the Chicago White Sox for Wilson Betemit, and prospects Johnny Nunez and Jeff Marquez. Swisher is a career .244 hitter. He hit 24 homeruns last year, but had an average of just .219.

The Yankees weren't the only ones wheeling and dealing. The Cubs acquired Kevin Gregg from the Marlins in exchange for Jose Ceda, a minor league pitcher. Kerry Wood, the Cubs closer in 2008, likely will not return to Chicago, therfore the Cubs acquired Gregg.

Gregg was 7-8 with a 3.41 ERA in 2008. He had 58 strikeouts in 68.2 IP. He was 29/38 in save oppurtunities.
