Castro Rumors and MLB News

The Phillies reportedly agreed to a deal with utility infielder Juan Castro, pending a physical. The deal is for one year with a club option for 2011. The deal might not be officially announced until next week.

Castro will fill Eric Bruntlett’s spot on the roster. The 37-year old batted .277 in 112 at-bats with the Los Angeles Dodgers last season. Castro was given a minor league contract worth $700,000 in 2009. If the deal is official, it is unlikely to exceed that price

In other MLB news, the Milwaukee Brewers re-sign Chris Capuano. He was signed to a minor league deal, and is recovering from Tommy John Surgery in 2008.

The Chicago White Sox signed Omar Vizquel to a one-year, $1.375 deal. Vizquel, 42, is known for his defense. He played with the Rangers this season and batted .266 in 195 plate appearances. The White Sox are also interested in Coco Crisp.
