It's Werth It!

The Phillies moved to within one game back of the National League East with their win and the Met's loss.

The Chicago Cubs got on the board early courtesy of a Geovanny Soto RBI.

Jayson Werth would get that run back in the 5th inning on a solo homerun. Werth homered later in the game to give him 20 homeruns for the season, a career high.

In the 6th, Werth singled in Chase Utley and Ryan Howard to give the Phillies a 3-1 lead at the time. Howard made a great slide to avoid the tag of Geovanny Soto and put another run on the board.

Howard, along with Werth, homered in the 8th inning to give the Phillies a 5-1 lead.

The team with the best record in baseball weren't about to go down without a fight. Aramis Ramirez had an RBI to make it a 5-2 game in the 8th inning.

All of a sudden, the Cubs had 2 on with no outs in the 8th. Charlie Manuel decided to make the call to J.C. Romero and pull Myers.

Myers pitched 7+ innings. He allowed 11 hits, but just 2 runs. He did not walk a batter and struck out 8.

Since Myers has come back from the minors, he has been lights out. His curveball is almost unhittable. The command of his fastball is better than ever, thus he is not allowing many walks.

The Phillies have had trouble in the 8th inning, and it almost happened was a reoccurring nightmare today. However, J.C Romero struck out the first 2 batters he faced. Then, he allowed a walk to load the bases. However, he struck out the rookie Soto to end the inning.

Brad Lidge would a 1-2-3 inning in the 9th to pick up his 32nd save of the season. Phillies won 5-2 and are just 1 game out of the NL East.

Jamie Moyer will face Carlos Zambano in the series finale.
