Shutout

Brett Myers curveball was simply unhittable. He threw a complete game shutout to help the Phillies win 4-0 over the Washington Nationals.

Last night was Myers' first complete game since 2006, and his first complete game shutout since 2004.

In the process, Myers gave up 9 hits, struck out 9, and walked just one batter. He lowered his ERA to 4.71. The first time in a while it has been under 5.

Greg Dobbs hit his 6th home run of the season in the 5th. The two run home run gave the Phillies a 3-0 lead at the time. Jayson Werth hit an RBI double to give the Phillies a 4-0 lead.

Myers, who wanted to be a closer had a chance to close the game out. When asked about if he created a closer situation for himself he replied:

"Yeah, but as a closer you're not as tired. I always try to finish
ballgames, but situations come up to where you've probably had enough and the
manager makes a decision to get you out if there."

"I was expecting Charlie to come up and tell me he was going with somebody
else, which I was fine with."
No hard feelings for Manuel there. The tension and problem must have been solved.
