Up at Shea, pitcher Jason Marquis hit a grand slam homerun which gave the Cubs a 8-2 lead over the Mets.
For the Phillies, J.A Happ pitched 6.2 innings and allowed just 2 earned runs, a 2 run homerun to Kelly Johnson. Happ struck out 5 and walked 2.
Jair Jurrjens pitched 7 innings for the Braves allowing just 2 earned runs as well. He walked one, and struck out one.
Ryan Howard was Jurrjens only strikeout victim. It marked the 195th strikeout for Howard this season. Only Arizona's Mark Reynolds has more with 196.
The Phillies got their first two runs early. In the first inning, Chase Utley doubled in Jimmy Rollins. In the second inning, Victorino scored with the help of his speed on a force out by Jayson Werth.
Tied at 2 in the 8th inning, Greg Dobbs led off the inning with his league leading 22nd pinch hit of the season. Greg Golson pinch ran for him. Golson moved to third base after a pickoff attempt was air mailed.
At a close play at the plate, Golson scored on a ground ball.
Pat Burrell gave the Phillies some breathing room a few batters later. He hit a 3 run homerun. The homerun extended the Phillies homerun streak to 18 consecutive games.
The playoff picture is getting a little bigger for the Phillies as their magic number gets a little smaller.
