WPIV's sports anchor Gary Papa has passed away after a battle with prostate cancer. My condolences go to the Papa family and the 6ABC News team. Papa was one of my favorite sports anchors.
Gary Papa was the consummate broadcaster. In these last few years it would take him a long time to get from the newsroom to the studio. He'd have to stop and rest sometimes three or four times. He was in pain, but he refused to quit. He fought it hard. I have tremendous respect for Gary. He was a great guy and a terrific sportscaster. I'll miss him every day.
Shay, nice tribute. He did fight through it and worked until the end. He would never say he was in pain. He was always in good spirits. He will be missed.
