SAL Champions: BlueClaws

Congratulations to the 2009 Lakewood BlueClaws! For the second time in their 16-year history, the Phillies Single-A affiliate clinched the South Atlantic League title. They beat the Greenville Drive (Red Sox) 5-1 in game four of the series.

Korey Noles earned the win, pitching seven solid innings. The BlueClaws were able to manufacture runs by playing small ball. Travis d'Arnaud, Harold Garcia, Troy Hanzawa, and Anthony Gose each drove in runs. Gose's speed was a key factor in the victory.

It was a good night for the Phillies organization. The Phillies beat the Atlanta Braves 9-3, decreasing their magic number to 8.

The only down side was that J.A Happ (oblique) and Carlos Ruiz (sprained wrist) left the game early. Ryan Howard hit two home runs, but he had a bandage on his arm at the end of the game. Shane Victorino was not in the lineup due to stomach problems. Luckily, none of the injuries appear to be serious.
